Walden University, which has provided alternative educational opportunities for working adults for 50 years, uses the ON24 Intelligent Engagement platform to reach and engage with students and staff through certification and professional development programs. Seamless integration makes it easy for the team to host their on-demand content on their website. With ON24 engagement tools at their fingertips, the team is able to drive engagement, leading to a better understanding of their audience.

Problem

Walden University may be at the forefront of online education, but that didn’t spare them from the need to swiftly pivot during the time when in-person events stopped being an option. This is when Rochelle Gilbert, Associate Provost, Office of Civic Engagement and Leadership at Walden University, and her team discovered they needed better digital engagement options. The university was using multiple meeting platforms for their professional development and continuing education programs, but they were not viable solutions for replacing their larger in-person events. They lacked the integration, reporting and engagement capabilities they needed to scale. 

Due to the lack of  integration capabilities with their current combination of conferencing tools, the team was spending a lot of time pulling attendance data, and tracking in–event engagement. Post-event, they wanted their content to be available on-demand but the conversion process took hours, and ultimately the analytics these platforms provided were incredibly limiting. ”It was just really manual,” Gilbert explained. “It took hours of time away from our team downloading the content and adding it to our website. Time that could have been spent doing something more valuable for Walden.”

Solution

With ON24, the team at Walden University was able to get all the elements they were missing when using other platforms — making it possible to scale the impact of their education and certification program. Thanks to ON24 automation capabilities they are able to seamlessly convert their webinars and events to on-demand evergreen content instantly, saving hours per webinar of time. Additionally, custom API integrations automatically push engagement data into student profiles in order to track education credits associated with ongoing courses for a variety of certifications and course credits.

To make the course selection experience easier for their students and attendees, the team started using ON24 content hubs. Content hubs made it possible to customize and personalize a variety of different categories of content and have an always-on linkable place for that content to live and to direct their students to. The content hubs feature evergreen content, providing a content experience that is holistic for attendees, with a variety of content across their different continuing education types. These hubs are also linked to in student communications, where the team can easily track engagement data and automate certification credits and attendance information. All of which is pushed directly into student profiles in Salesforce and their internal records via Walden’s custom API integration — saving weeks of previously manual work.

Gilbert is also impressed with what the platform has to offer by way of branding and customization. “The branding experience means a lot to us when we’re hosting an event. It’s what draws the person in, and creates a unique experience.” 

And once that audience is in, the team is now able to provide an interactive experience using the ON24 engagement tools that lead to actionable data. In fact, Gilbert considers engagement and data to be the biggest benefits ON24 brings to Walden University. “I like the detailed analytics that comes with ON24. I like the ability to customize an event in a way that’s unique for us. But that high engagement, whether it’s real time or backend engagement of those attendees, I would say that’s the greatest draw.”

Results

Since signing on with ON24, Gilbert and her team have seen some incredible results. They now save about two weeks of manual work each year thanks to ON24 automation capabilities, and the API and Salesforce integration.
