Introduction
NACE delivers continuing education to primary and specialty physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other health care professionals. Face-to-face and virtual events include didactic and interactive, case-based presentations, question and answer sessions, faculty-led conversations, patient cases and interactive monographs.
After implementing ON24 Webcast Elite for training webinars, NACE doubled its registrations when compared to its previous in-person events. This was largely thanks to its ability to scale audience reach and accessibility through its virtual training program powered by the ON24 Platform.
With ON24, NACE expanded its audience, reduced expenses and collected more actionable data that it could use to enhance it dynamic learning experiences. With its unique presentation model, and the strength of ON24’s webinar platform, NACE has become a leader in the medical education field, staying well ahead of its competition.
Problem
When the National Association for Continuing Education (NACE) launched virtual primary care conversations in 2017, the company wanted to move away from typical slide presentations.
At the time, Stephen Webber, VP of Production, New Products, Innovation and Strategy at NACE, wanted to take NACE’s presentations and blend technology, data-driven insights and creativity with great video quality. So, he and his team turned to webinars to create engaging newscast-style events that would capture a learner’s attention and complement in-person training programs.
Before turning to ON24, Webber explored other digital platforms that were harder to use for businesses and learners and had limited options for live streaming, design and data collection. Additionally, studio production layouts limited NACE’s ability to customize its events, frustrating Webber.
“It’s very important to be current and on the cutting edge in our industry,” Webber said. “Especially from the perspective of design and technology, because we’ve developed a reputation.”
Webber worked with ON24 in a previous position so he knew it was flexible and easier to implement.

Solution
Currently, NACE uses ON24 to host virtual symposiums and provide certified medical education credits. Its symposiums provide up to eight lectures a day and provide commercially sponsored pharmacological seminars in alternative virtual rooms they call presentation theaters. Networking and sales opportunities are offered through ON24 Breakouts, a strong contributor to driving engagement with smaller groups of attendees.
NACE meets their accreditation compliance requirements by separating its two presentation types. Since users can switch back and forth seamlessly without the need for unique login credentials, NACE is seeing a 40% to 50% pull-through, twice each conference day, which is well above the guarantees the association provides to its sponsors.
NACE’s success relies on data collection, so the team appreciates the advanced analytics and engagement scores. Reports strengthen relationships with supporters, help to identify gaps and provide critical information about ongoing needs. For example, higher virtual event attendance attendance, combined with virtual polling options, have dramatically increased the amount of data collected. With this data in hand, ON24 can automatically provide NACE with analysis of attendee behavior, simplifying internal communication and reducing the change of reporting errors.

Using ON24’s engagement tools, NACE has increased its response rates by 40% to 50% — far ahead of the industry average of 10% to 20%.
ON24 gives NACE complete control over what happens in its console. That autonomy means the team can fully execute their vision for a broadcast quality webinar and they’ve found the platform to be extremely reliable and flexible.
“That’s how it needs to be. We know we can send our stream up to ON24 and not worry about it,” Webber says. “We know that we’re going to be able to deliver what we’ve designed and that everything’s in place.”

With inline registration CTAs, NACE has doubled session sign-ups and reduced its advertising budget. The company has also eliminated studio and live streaming fees to the tune of $8,000 a week. Since ON24 does the work of two full-time employees, the organization annually saves hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Webber looks forward to implementing other ON24 tools in the near future. They’ve added the ON24 Engagement Hub and plan to implement so they can direct their customers to easily access and stay engaged with on-demand content.
Using Webcast Elite, NACE executed its award-winning training program vision, reduced staffing needs and eliminated outside studio resources, saving $300,0000 annually. The platform made it easy to move programs online during COVID-19-related shutdowns in 2020 and increased data collection keeps supporters engaged and informs future training. With ON24, NACE expanded its audience reach, dramatically increased webinar and event registrations by 2x, and attendance and certifications by 4x.
